These terms apply to Mediocre Life Story (the “App”), made by the owners of Mediocre Life Story (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using the App you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.
App Store: if you downloaded the App from Apple's App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and these terms add to it. Google Play: the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.
1. What the App is
Mediocre Life Story is a game that simulates lives using real-world statistics. It depicts difficult subjects, including war, violence, illness, death, poverty, addiction, discrimination and gambling, because they are part of real lives. All of it is simulated: no real person's life is depicted, and names are generated.
It isn't advice. The probabilities in the App are estimates for groups of people, not predictions about you. Nothing in the App is medical, financial, legal, immigration or other professional advice. Don't make real-life decisions based on it.
2. Your licence
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell or redistribute the App or its content, except where the law allows it, or where an open-source or data licence listed on our credits page gives you that right for that component.
3. Mediocre Life Story Plus (subscription)
- Mediocre Life Story Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly or yearly, that removes ads and adds extra rewinds and an extra action each year. The price is shown in the App before you buy, in your local currency.
- App Store: payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings.
- Google Play: the subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions. You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for.
- Cancelling stops future renewals. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we can't issue refunds for store purchases ourselves.
- Rewinds, extra actions and other in-game benefits have no cash value and can't be transferred or exchanged.
- You can restore an active subscription on a new device with Restore purchases in the App.
4. Ads
The free version shows ads provided by Google AdMob, as described in our Privacy Policy. Rewarded ads are always optional. We aren't responsible for the content of third-party ads or for the products they advertise.
5. Data and third-party content
The App's statistics are compiled from public datasets and published research, each used under its own licence and cited on our credits page. These sources don't endorse the App. We work hard to represent them accurately, but they can contain errors, and our modelling simplifies them.
6. Intellectual property
The App, including its name, logo, artwork, icons, text, game design and code, is owned by the owners of Mediocre Life Story and protected by copyright and other laws, except for third-party components listed on our credits page, which belong to their owners. “Mediocre Life Story” and its logo may not be used without our permission.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use the App to break the law, to interfere with its ads or purchases (for example by generating fraudulent ad clicks or tampering with subscriptions), or to extract its data for commercial use.
8. Disclaimer
The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't guarantee that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that its statistics are complete or accurate.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the App or reliance on its content. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
10. Changes and termination
We may update the App and these terms. If we make significant changes, we'll update the date above; continuing to use the App afterwards means you accept the new terms. You can stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may end your licence if you break these terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws that apply where the App's owners are based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
